The background for my WOTR army is Theoden leading the Rohirrim to the aid of Gondor, and the battle at the Black Gate, hence the Cavalry/Infantry combo. The reason for Eorl the Young is that I thought, if I was gathering almost everything in the Rohan army list (except Theodred and Erkenbrand as Epic Heroes, because I had both Theodred's Knights and Erkenbrand's Riders.) I might as well include the first King of Rohan, because he was, after all, included in the army list and there was no rule anywhere saying I couldn't include him. So, the reason for Theodred. First, I really liked the model and the character, but even though he died at the Fords of Isen, I figured there was no reason I couldn't or shouldn't include him, because after all he is a pretty powerful hero (2 might, Hero of Legend special rule). So lets just say he was revived, like Eorl.
But why did I pick a Rohan army? Well, it was the charge at Pelennor Fields in the 3rd movie that really sold it. I think I was about 5 or 6 when I saw that, and I instantly made the connection-Rohan is my favorite. When I went to my first hobby shop years later, the connection reignited when i saw the Rohirrim. So here I am now, building my Rohan WOTR army. A dream come true.
